Buffelsdrift is a sprawling game farm in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains in the Cango Valley, Pristine bushveld, lush vegetation and a 5 ha dam provides a haven for twenty game species and more than 217 bird species. Buffelsdrift Game Lodge is situated outside Oudtshoorn, en route the Cango Caves. The lodge is in the heart of ostrich country, half-an hour’s drive from the Swartberg Nature Reserve. In May 2004 this beautiful Nature Reserve became part of the 6th South-African World Heritage Site offering a wealth of endemic plant species.
The Lookout Lounge is situated next to reception with a large round stone fireplace in the middle, overlooking the 5 hectare dam with the Swartberg Mountain Range in the distance. TV and internet facilities available. On arrival relax with a welcome drink while completing your registration card, while your guide takes your luggage to your luxury or superior tent. The À La Carte & Buffet Restaurant specialises in local cuisine, and is fully air-conditioned for those typical hot days of the Klein Karoo. There’s also a lovely large stone fireplace for those chilly nights in the winter months. One can also sit on the deck overlooking the dam and watch the hippos playing below.
Some of the activities offered at the lodge include early morning bush safaris drives, late afternoon bush safaris to watch the sun set, horseback safaris, Elephant walk safaris and Elephant feeding experience, as well as Fauna & flora guided nature walks. With over 330 sunshine days a year, Oudtshoorn is a great place for Outdoor activities. Surrounded by mountain ranges and blessed with a rich variety of bird and plant life the Klein Karoo reveals it’s beauty to those who get out and make the effort to explore. Some of the other exciting activities around the area include the Cango Ostrich Show Farm, Cango Wildlife Ranch and Valley of Ancients, the Cango Caves, the Swartberg Pass, quad biking, hiking, skydiving, hot air ballooning, or a visit to the isolated valley of “The Hell” in Gamkaskloof – to mention but a few 😉
Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers gorgeous superior tents (situated on the waters edge), and luxury tents each one with its own en-suite bathroom and private outdoor shower, air-conditioning, mini-bar, digital safe, tea/coffee facilities and a game viewing deck. The swimming pool is situated in between the tents for accommodation guests only.
