Main Street Walks Johannesburg
Mainstreetwalks Johannesburg will launch on the 17th of September with the Art and Justice Tour. On the 18th of September you can experience the Public Art walk with guest artist Marcus Neustetter. This walk departs from Arts on Main and covers the Johannesburg Central Business District. Mainstreetwalks is a concept that encourages people to rediscover the inner City and ultimately Johannesburg. The best way to explore these spaces, like any other city in the world, is by foot and public transport. If you have the imagination to go beyond mere tourist rubbernecking, our guided tours, which start westwards from Arts on Main, navigate a way around the City using the new Rea Vaya, Bus Rapid Transport system (BRT). Rea Vaya, which means “we are going” offers fast, safe and affordable public transport on a network of routes across JHB. Like all people who are passionate about the City, those who live and work there, we know that there are endless possibilities that exist for exploring the CBD. The City offers spaces and places that are full of charm, interest and history.
The walks on offer this weekend include a combination of walking and the BRT would be used to expose the incredible art that exists in the inner City. The tour works to provide a unique insight into the relationship between art and justice, which concept has been revolutionised by the Constitutional Court, inviting you to think about both concepts individually and as a single notion. You will see loads of public art, the Ghandi Monument, the Albertina & Walter Sisulu monument, Paper Pigeons, Brenda Fassie statue, Kippie Moeketsi statue, the Miners monument, public galleries, the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, and main attractions such as the Ghandi Square, the Bus Rapid Transport system and the Constitutional Hill. Join us in celebrating, exploring and rediscovering Johannesburg. Contact Road Travel to find out more.
