Spectacular Cape Town Scenic Flights

Have you ever seen magnificent Namaqualand from the sky during the spring flower season festival when the buds open to greet you?  This gorgeously different flight option will be available from 15th August to 15th September 2011.  Take off from Cape Town, flying over the West Coast until you reach Namaqualand within an hour.  You will be treated to a variety of natural landscapes, from arid mountain desert with its spectacular mountainous sand dunes, volcanic formations and the contrasting floral kingdom comprising more than 3000 indigenous plant species.  The magnificent buds of the wild spring flowers display their kaleidoscope of magical colours as they emerge from the seemingly parched soil.  The Cape’s short spring season attracts visitors from all over the world – but it is only possible to appreciate them fully in their majestic magnitude from the air.  From the plane, the perspective is complete with the Cederberg Mountains revealing their beauty.  So, we invite you to enjoy a four hours scenic flight and indulge your senses!

Road Travel can also offer a new Fly-In Big 5 Safari.  This is a 5 star experience completed with arrival in style.  Inverdoorn game reserve and safari lodge is a mere 30 minute flight from Cape Town with spectacular scenery of winelands and mountain ranges to be seen.  The game reserve is situated on a 10 000 hectare, malaria free property in the heart of the Ceres-Karoo, home to 28 species of animals and about 1200 entities, including Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant, Giraffe and Zebra to name but a few, which can be seen on 2.5 – 3 hour safari drives with professional rangers.  As well as the WCCC (Western Cape Cheetah Conservation) who is world renowned for their rehabilitation and conservation efforts with the most endangered big cat, the Cheetah.  Luxurious accommodation, fine cuisine and friendly staff will make you want to return sooner rather than later, to again experience the peace and tranquillity, vast open spaces and beautiful surroundings.

Another fantastic offer, available until 15 October 2011 is the Whale Watching Scenic Flights.  Every year, the biggest mammal in the world leaves the frozen Antarctica and swims to the Cape South Coast.  The majestic Southern Right whales have chosen warmer climates for giving birth and they spend up to five months a year here, from June to October, playing, courting, and nursing their newborn calves.  Peak calving season is July and August, but whales can be seen through September and October.  Being close to these giants is quite unusual, but seeing their majestic beauty from the sky, distinctly visible, without any interference for them, is absolutely unforgettable.  There are few moments in life that can offer such a show in one tour.

Daisies and Klipkoppe

Spring is on its way and that means the Flower Season’s almost here 🙂  Here being the Western Cape of South Africa 😉  Road Travel can still offer excellent value for money accommodation in the most superb areas along the spectacular flower route.  The ideal route will take you from Cape Town up the West Coast into Namaqualand.

If you’re into space, and vast quantities of it, the Northern Cape is for you.  Endless flat vistas stretch out across the silent, thirsty landscapes.  It was in the heart of this province, at Verneukpan, that Malcolm Campbell attempted to break the Land Speed Record in 1929 in his car, Bluebird.  He failed, but he succeeded in putting this strikingly desolate part of the world on the map.  Springbok is world renowned as the Namaqualand Flower Capital.  The town lies in a narrow valley between the high granite domes of the Klein Koperberge which are locally referred to as “klipkoppe”.  Originally known as Springbokfontein, after the many antelope that inhabited the region, the name was shorted to Springbok.

With magnificent views overlooking the Koppies and valleys, Daisy Country Lodge is truly an oasis in this semi desert area.  The lodge is situated just outside of Springbok on 25 Hectares, on the farm called Biesjesfontein.  Namaqualand is known for its spring flowers, rare succulents, unique indigenous plants, rich history, hospitality, unreal rock formations and the Richtersveld.  With lots to do and see at at Daisy, Springbok and the surrounding areas, this is a destination worth visiting for a few days.  Tasteful air-conditioned bedrooms have private entrances offering quality linen, bar fridge, satellite TV and tea tray.  Relax after a day of activities and cool off at the pool.  There’s also a walking trail on the farm with horse riding, biking, 4×4 trails nearby, or river rafting down the Orange River at Vioolsdrift. Daisy Country Lodge also offer an A la carte restaurant.

There’s a surprising amount of things to do in and around this area.  The Blue Mine, Springbok’s first mine, includes a walking trail which offers amazing views of the town from the western outskirts.  Goegap Nature Reserve offers the visitor 600 indigenous flower species, 45 mammal species and about 94 bird species.  And don’t miss the Hester Malan Wild Flower garden with its incredible succulent collection.  Also be sure to visit the Namaqualand Museum housed in the old synagogue, Orbicule Hill in Concordia, Komaggas Spinning and Weaving and the war graves from the Anglo Boer War on the Kleinzee road that dates back to 1860.  Contact Road Travel to find out more about the area and allow us to assist you in creating the ideal getaway to Namaqualand.
