Music at D’Ouwe Werf in Stellenbosch

Road Travel received some info from the general manager at D’Ouwe Werf in Stellenbosch about a series of music performances coming up.  The 14th of April is the Pro Conto Choir Concert and 15th of September is Strijdom van der Merwe & Francois Le Roux.  We are looking forward to experiencing these special events. The tickets will include the concert, arrival snacks and wine. There will also be a special dinner menu available for after the concert.

Established in 1802, d’Ouwe Werf is South Africa’s oldest and most historic hotel and has defined hospitality and fine dining for centuries.  Guests enjoy the wonders of the Cape Winelands from the repose of their luxurious accommodation, situated in the historical core of the university town of Stellenbosch, only 45km from Cape Town, 20km from the sea and surrounded by beautiful mountains.  Stellenbosch is famous as the premier wine region of South Africa.  Located on vibrant Church Street, d’Ouwe Werf retains the graceful ambience of Georgian style throughout.  Soft hues and antique furniture have been tastefully aligned with the comforts of modern living to create a calm haven from which to base your exploration of Stellenbosch.

The hotel consists of 32 en suite bedrooms and 6 Courtyard Apartments which are individually styled with antiques collected over the years.  Modern facilities, and staff who pride themselves on their friendly, personal and professional service, make each visit an enjoyable and memorable one.  The “1802 Restaurant” is renowned for its traditional and international cuisine and boasts a wine list that will satisfy even the most sophisticated connoisseur.  On sunny days, sit outside in the vine-covered coffee garden, and enjoy a slice of the best cheesecake you have ever tasted.

Sit back and sip sundowners in the tranquillity of a lovely verdant garden, or bask in the sun on the wooden deck.  Enjoy a dip in the heated swimming pool.  For those who feel a bit more energetic, there are signature golf courses in close proximity to the town, guided historical village walks, wine tours and a variety of other activities that can be arranged from the hotel.  A myriad shops, museums, art galleries and beautiful examples of Cape Dutch architecture are within easy walking distance of the hotel.  Stellenbosch winelands lies in one of the most beautiful valleys in the South Africa.  Enjoy visiting the many wine farms in the area.  Wine tasting, cheese and chocolate tasting as well as experiencing the wonderful cuisine offered on these breath taking wine estates are all part of this memorable winelands experience.
