Follow the trails of the wildebeest and encounter the graceful Masaai in Kenya’s famous Masai Mara before diving into the balmy Indian Ocean waters off its beautiful coastline.

Known as Kenya’s best loved safari camp, Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp offers a quintessential game viewing experience, with sweeping vistas of the magnificent vistas of the Masai Mara or the Sabaringo River.

Located where the riverine forest meets the sweeping plains in the path of the awe-inspiring Great Migration, the camp provides an authentic dose of African wilderness, delivered with legendary Kenyan hospitality.

Laid out along the banks of the Sabaringo River on the edge of the Oloololo escarpment, Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp looks out onto the seemingly endless plains of the Masai Mara. Set on a private concession leased from Masai landlords in the less populated northern part of the Mara, the camp offers total seclusion coupled with abundant wildlife.

The Masai Mara Nature Reserve is home to a vast number of resident wildlife, as well as home to the annual Great Migration. The migratory wildebeest, zebra, kongoni and topi join abundant elephant, hippo, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah. Leopard and serval are frequently encountered, while endangered black rhino can be found in the dense bush thickets. The Mara River is also famed for its enormous crocodiles, which lay in wait for the wildebeest and zebra during the migration, when more than two million wildebeest and zebra move in search of prime grazing land.

Tijara Beach is located just south of Mombasa Island in Kenya. It is an exclusive retreat set on a seaside bluff in five acres of beautiful gardens overlooking the Indian Ocean. At the foot of the cliffs on which the resort perches is its own private beach. A magnificent fresh water pool and al fresco dining area complete this enchanting resort. Recreational activities include snorkelling along the reef, bird watching or beach and cave walks. Adventure seekers can enjoy a visit to Mombasa Old Town and deep sea fishing or diving can also be arranged.

All guests will enjoy their privacy and spectacular panoramas from their own private verandas. The traditional Swahili style of Tijara cottages with carved doors and high makuti (coconut thatch) roofs is complimented by exclusively handcrafted Swahili furniture with ornate carvings and rich decoration; some of which was lovingly restored and some specially made by the local craftsmen.

Tijara’s commitment to conservation includes a community project to involve the local villagers in planting trees for further use as building or carving materials. This is an ongoing project with tree planting taking place before each rainy season. Tijara is also closely involved with the local village chief in talking to the local schools about the importance of the reef and its inhabitants and the necessity to protect them.
